What an adventure. Spent the week at Washington with Quy’s sister. We left on Sunday, Dec 29th at 6 p.m. We rented a car and headed north on the I-5. Quy drove first. After we reached Sacramento, I took over for a while. Cruise control, baby! =) Everything was great until we reached the mountains and I encountered a light snow storm. Quy took over and drove for rest of the journey where we encountered a even bigger snow storm at Northern California, and dense fog and rain at Oregon and Washington. 18 hours later, beaten and tired, we reached our destination, Bremerton, WA (just east of Seattle). We spent Monday resting.
On New Years Eve, we took the ferry to Seattle. The ferry ride lasted an hour. This was my first time on a ferry. The view was amazing. Washington is so green (and wet). Seattle is truly the home of Starbucks. There’s practically a Starbucks at every corner. We decided to chill out at a Tully’s Coffee instead. Afterwards, we walked all through the city (a good 40 blocks to and from). When we reached the Space Needle, it was closed. $21 for a Caesar Salad? I think not. All in all, I really like Seattle. It’s a pretty city and the folks there are really nice.
We spent the rest of the week chilling out and watching movies at home. It rained for most of the week. We started heading back to LA on Friday morning. We decided to take the long and scenic route down Highway 101. There were a lot of nice little towns by the 101. We stopped and bought some smoked salmon from a little fishing village by Oregon. A bit overpriced in my opinion considering that there’s no middle-man since they catch, smoke, can and sell their own salmon. We drove further and by nightfall we reached Hebo where we stopped at the local bar. There were very nice folks there. I ordered a Pepsi since I was driving. To my surprise it was the best Pepsi I have had. I thought that every Pepsi was the same, I guess not.
After another bar stop at Lincoln City, we parked and spent the night by the beach. The heavy rain and strong wind kept me up all night. The wind just kept rocking the car and raindrops kept falling on my head. At daybreak, we headed out and reached the California border in a few hours. “California here we come, right back where we started from.”
You know you’re in California when you start seeing redwoods. They were breath taking. This time of year they weren’t red at all, their trunks were all covered with green moss. We reached Berkley by nightfall and hanged out for a few hours. From there we took the Junction 580 inland and started down the I-5 back to the City of Angels. We reached LA at around 7 a.m.
I wish we could’ve stayed longer but school starts tomorrow.
